An article in this week's New York Times Magazine celebrates Chester Greenwood, 15-year old inventor of the modern metal-sprung earmuff.

Young Chester's 1877 earmuff patent (188,292) was just the beginning, as he went on to patent an advertising match box (264,148), a metal rake (2,066,036), and a teakettle (1,716,124).
And when the excitement of household items wore thin, he directed his attention to, well, boring machines (1,089,547).
